What IT support costs in Sydney — our rates

No call-out fee, no weekend loading, and no surprise line items. This is the whole price list.

Geeks2U is a national franchise, so an invoice there covers head-office overhead, marketing and the franchisee's licence fee as well as the technician's labour. We are a Sydney-based independent — there is no franchise loading, and no need to guess what a visit will cost.

Most jobs — a Windows reinstall, virus removal, a slow Mac, NBN troubleshooting — realistically take 90 to 120 minutes. At $205/hr flat that is the entire labour cost, whether it is a Tuesday morning or a Sunday afternoon, with any parts quoted at cost on top.

Worth checking before you book

National operators commonly bill a lower weekday rate, a higher weekend and public-holiday rate, and an additional surcharge for same-day attendance — so the headline hourly figure is often not what an urgent weekend call-out actually costs. Check any provider's current published rates on their own website, and compare on the total cost of the job rather than the advertised hourly rate.

Where the cost adds up

The headline hourly rate is not always what lands on the invoice. Three things commonly lift the total.

  • Weekend and public-holiday loading. Many providers bill a higher rate outside standard weekday hours. Ours does not change — $205/hr flat, any day of the week.
  • Same-day or urgency surcharge. Priority attendance is often charged as an extra line item. We include same-day at no surcharge, subject to availability.
  • Parts. Hardware such as an SSD, RAM or a power supply is charged on top of labour almost everywhere — the question is whether it is marked up. We quote parts at cost price, with no markup.

None of that is unusual for a national franchise. The point is simply that the final cost depends on the day, the urgency and any parts, so it is worth comparing on total cost rather than the advertised hourly rate alone.

Local independent vs national franchise — side by side

Most people call a technician because something broke today, so the comparison that matters is a same-day on-site job.

The local advantage

A Sydney-based independent does not pay franchise royalties, so the technician's time is not loaded with franchise overhead. You also tend to get the same person on a return visit, which matters when a job needs follow-up.

When a national franchise makes sense

We are not the right answer for every job. Here is an honest split.

A national franchise is a fine choice when

  • You are in a regional NSW town where no local technician operates.
  • Your insurance or corporate plan specifically reimburses that provider's invoices.
  • You need 24/7 phone-line scheduling and are comfortable paying for it.

You are better off with a Sydney local when

  • You want one flat hourly rate that does not change on a weekend.
  • You want the same technician back if the job needs a second visit.
  • You would rather pay nothing at all if the problem cannot be fixed.
  • You want parts at cost instead of marked up.

5 ways to cut your Sydney IT bill

  • Try remote first for software problems. Email, printer and password issues can often be resolved in a remote session at $125/hr — no visit required.
  • Ask for the total, not the hourly rate. Get the expected job time, any surcharges and how parts are charged before you book.
  • Check parts are not marked up. If a quote loads the price of an SSD well above retail, ask why. We quote parts at cost price.
  • Bundle several devices into one visit. One attendance, and the family laptop and the home printer both get sorted in the same session.
  • Check for a weekend rate. If your provider charges a loading on weekends and public holidays, most home jobs can simply wait for a weekday. Ours is $205/hr flat every day, so it never applies here.

Frequently asked questions

On-site work is $205/hr with a one-hour minimum and no call-out fee. Remote support is $125/hr. Any parts are quoted at cost price with no markup, and we tell you the cost before we start.

Franchise networks are generally priced nationally while the technician who attends is a local franchisee, so wait time, travel and who turns up can vary by suburb. Check the provider's own website for the rates that apply to your postcode. Ours is simpler: $205/hr flat on-site anywhere in Sydney metro, $125/hr remote.

If we cannot resolve the problem, you do not pay — there is no call-out or diagnostic fee left over. Guarantees differ a lot between providers, and some still charge a diagnostic fee where no fix is achieved, so read the terms on the provider's own website before you book.

Most Sydney metro jobs booked before 2 PM are same-day, at no surcharge and subject to availability. If you are comparing providers, ask for their next available on-site slot in your suburb — that is the number that matters when something is broken today.
